About This Test
What is a Good Typing Speed?
Typing speed is measured in Words Per Minute (WPM). It is a measure of both cognitive processing speed (reading and translating thought to action) and fine motor skills (muscle memory).
Touch Typing vs. Hunt and Peck
The biggest factor in increasing your WPM is learning Touch Typing—using all ten fingers without looking at the keyboard. This relies on muscle memory (proprioception) rather than visual feedback, drastically reducing the cognitive load required to find keys.
